Psychological Thriller, The Judas Syndrome, by Michael Poeltl
Suffering from Psychotic episodes? Experiencing visions that reveal a horrifying future? Has the world as you know it ended? Have you lost everyone dear to you? Now you’re starting to get the picture.
What if you were suffering from visions which suddenly and without clear purpose began assaulting your senses? What if you began to hear voices in your head? What if those voices materialized as a bright light and then into a form more familiar? What if this vision showed you things, things that would happen in the future, terrible things? The vision continues to appear to you, it tells you your path, it makes you question your free will, are all your choices pre-determined? Destiny seems to offer you little opportunity beyond travelling in a straight line towards your end. Frustration and disbelief rise up in you as anger replaces fear. You become defiant of your destiny. Your vision becomes your enemy. What would you do? Would you try anything to avoid your destiny, to avoid the visions? Would it matter what you did? If destiny existed, then no matter what course you chose, your actions would drive you towards that end.
Depression followed by desperation take over as you feel helpless to alter your course. Still, you have to do something, the path may be set, but the purpose is unclear.
Imagine you are experiencing these visions, imagine you are 18, and then imagine the world as you knew it ends. The Apocalypse has come. You are surrounded by your friends, but their families and yours have all perished – you are alone, together and are driven only to survive.
Now imagine the visions become more profound, and the future less clear. Will destiny guide you or will you try to guide your destiny, and that of your friends? Are you losing your mind, or are you thinking more clearly than ever before?
Your internal battle will rival the horrors you will experience in the waking world. To be a prisoner in your own mind and to that of a world now ruinous and foreign to you will compound your stress and drive you deeper into your own mind. Escaping the reality while slipping further and further into the bizarre fantasy only you can see, and hear cannot end well.

About the Author
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Michael Poeltl earned his diploma in Interpretive Illustration and began a career in the field while educating himself on the art of writing. Writing quickly became his passion and after completing several shorts, he undertook his recently published work, The Judas Syndrome.
Drawn to the dark places of the mind, Poeltl often works through his own demons when putting words to paper. When the author lives the words he writes, experiencing each moment as it passes, it becomes more than a story,it becomes tangible, something the astute reader will pick up on.
And as with the Yin and Yang, he can appreciate the good in people, and the hope, and the dreams, and the work that is put into building a better life. This too can be found in both his writings, and in his own life. An example of that would be his membership in the Free Masons, where the motto is, “Taking a good man, and making him better.”
Poeltl lives in Ontario, Canada with his family, wife Lisa, daughter Tatum and dog Jackson.
